Kerry Wilson, bassist for The Homesick Cowboys, was born in Dallas, Texas in 1960.  His father, a professional touring musician, was lead guitar and front man for The Martells, during the 1950’s and 1960’s.  Kerry’s early musical talents developed in the Irving and Crowley schools systems where he played saxophone in band and marching band. After graduating high school, Kerry worked in government construction until 1987 when “the bass and country music discovered me,” says Kerry.  Although growing up with an appreciation for rock music, Kerry credits George Strait for his country conversion.  In 1989, Kerry met Deryl, who was playing with Midnight Highway, a band led by fellow Texas artist, Brian Burns. Kerry joined with Deryl and others to form a new band, Santa Fe, a year later.  As Deryl left for Nashville in 1991, Kerry stayed in Texas playing the honky tonks in Fort Worth and Dallas.  Desiring to further his musical abilities, Kerry studied under Ed Garcia at UTA, earning a Bachelors of Music in Music Business.  After graduation, Kerry toured with numerous local and regional bands, including Joey and Jill Floyd of Eldorado, Ricky Lynn Gregg, Dash Riprock and the Dragons, and The Sidemen, a local Fort Worth band. When not on stage with Deryl Dodd, you will find Kerry teaching early education at a private Christian school and giving private guitar lessons around the Fort Worth area. Kerry now lives in Fort Worth with his beautiful wife and two wonderful daughters and as always, “IHS.”
